A good hair care regimen will allow your hair to retain moisture for prolonged periods. Slathering on the hair conditioner as a leave-in will not work. Creating An Herbal Tea Conditioner For Hair Growth Using A Hair Rinse Or Spray.

A hair rinse can be poured into your hair using an applicator bottle. This method is perfect for those with dehydrated hair or who need extra frizz control. Do not rinse it out. It will act more like an intensive leave-in conditioner. 

A herbal hair spray is created by pouring your tea concoction into a spray bottle. Its purpose is to refresh your hair or add additional moisture to your hair when needed. Use it with or without moisturizing oils.

Lists Of 20 Moisturing Hair Oils and Butters That Act As Conditioner For Your Hair

Is Conditioner Necessary ? Let’s Start With The Most Deep Penetrating Hair Oils. 

Coconut Oil and Palm Kernal Oil – contains 50% of Lauric acid that can penetrate deep into the hair and bind to the protein in the hair’s cortex. Because of this, it aids in the prevention of protein loss. Also, lauric acid is anti-fungal, prevents microbial activities and bacteria. 

Fatty milk (goat, cow, whipping cream, yogurt) – Used best as a deep conditioning treatment is high in cholesterol and protein. It improves moisture in the hair strands and protects hair from becoming damaged. 

Animal Fat – (lard, beef, deer) –  Historically has been used to maintain hair moisture and prevent damaged ends. It is high in cholesterol and proteins and should be a leave-in.

Kokumba Butter, Cocoa Butter, Cupuacu Butter – are hard solid vegetable-based carrier oils. They are high in saturated fats, which makes them great for long-term softening and maintaining moisture within the hair. You can mix these butters with liquid carrier oils to improve distribution. 

Shea Butter, Avocado Butter, Almond Butter, Macadamia Nut Butter – are Soft vegetable-based carrier oils that are also high in saturated fats. Perfect for long-term moisture retention and hair softening. Best when used along the hair strands.  

Moringa Oil – Is high in oleic acid, antioxidants and is an excellent anti-inflammatory. The oil will increase scalp health and will aid in the softening and moisture levels of hair strands with regular usage. 

Neem Seed Oil: It is known to be high in fatty acids, which improve moisture levels in the hair. It is a medicinal oil that has anti-fungal, anti-bacterial properties, treats skin disease and infections. It has a strong odor, similar to a mixture of peanuts and garlic. Olive Oil – This is a recommended oil for all of your hair and beauty remedies. It can moisturize the hair from within by penetrating the hair strands. It can be used as a hot oil treatment or help your hair strands retain moisture, especially if you have fine hair. Add moisturizing herbs to olive oil to create the ultimate scalp and body treatment. 

Peanut Oil: Also known as groundnut oil, it is rich in vitamin E. Peanut oil is a preferred oil for dry hair and skin types since it reduces protein loss, prevents split ends and flaky scalp. Moreover, it locks in moisture when applied to the hair and skin. 

Almond Oil (Virgin) – Is a skin and hair softener and moisturizer high in vitamin E. It is a lightweight oil perfect for fine hair or oily hair types with dry ends. Also, it is well suited for dry, itchy, inflamed skin. Moreover, it works well as a hot oil conditioning treatment.

Castor Oil – This is a very thick oil that softens the hair and cuticles preventing them from breakage. The oil leaves an even layer on top of the hair shaft stopping friction, frizz, and hair knotting. Most of all, castor oil is a natural plant-based oil that aids in moisture retention for long periods. It is also known for preventing the hair from becoming chronically dry. Because it is a dense oil mixing it with lightweight moisturizing oils will allow even distribution. Olive oil, apricot kernel, and almond oils blend well with castor oil. 

Lanolin – This is an oil found in sheep’s wool commonly found in skin and hair care products. Lanolin’s moisture retention properties penetrate deep into the skin and hair cuticles. Therefore, creating a barrier that leaves the skin and hair soft and supple. It is beneficial in treatments that prevent cracked, damaged, or extremely dry skin or hair. 

Oils for moisture retention also include all the above butters and animal fat.

You can mix any of the above oils, butters, and herbs into creams, lotions, balms, or create your concoction to increase their effectiveness. Additionally, you can find them on the store shelves in your favorite hair and beauty products. 

These oils became a part of modern hair grooming going into the 1900s to the present day. 

During the 20th century, mineral oils and petroleum jelly were easy to access and a cheap alternative to hairdressing with silicone oils being more recent.

Silicone Oils – Protects hair for heat styling and prevents moisture loss from the hair. Also, it gives hair shine, silky feel and keeps water within the hair shaft. In humid climates, it aids in preventing frizz. Furthermore, silicone oil stops the hair from reverting into its natural curl pattern when straightened. Silicone is a lightweight nongreasy oil that is useful for all hair types.

Mineral Oils, Petroleum Jelly, or Hairdressing (Hair Grease): This is great as a grooming and styling aid since it does not have conditioning properties. It has the ability to prevent moisture evaporation from the skin and hair. It doesn’t leave the hair feeling sticky and greasy after application as other oils do. Furthermore, it acts as an emollient, detangling, and antistatic agent.
